Term
Blockfield
Also written: Felsenmeer
An extensive cover of angular rock blocks, often found on cold upland plateaus. Frost action can contribute to its development, but the blocks may record a long history of weathering. Their presence alone does not prove that permafrost exists today.
What to look for
Blockfield on Foel Fras, Wales. Physical weathering breaks bedrock into angular fragments without changing its minerals.
