Map sources and measurement method
Plate boundaries use Bird’s PB2002 model (2003), converted by Nordpil under ODC-BY 1.0. Borders come from Natural Earth’s public-domain dataset. Other overlays show selected teaching examples; current routes and movement arrows are simplified.
Distance and area calculations use a sphere with a radius of 6,371 km. For area measurements, draw a polygon smaller than a hemisphere without crossing its own edges.
Basemaps are supplied by OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap contributors, OpenTopoMap and Esri Ocean using GEBCO ocean-depth data. Attribution for the active basemap remains on each map.
