417 words used in the labs.

Find a term from the labs, understand the process behind it, and see how it appears in the landscape. Each entry connects an explanation with a real observation and a model you can explore.

Incidence

The angle between incoming radiation and the surface normal. A larger incidence angle spreads the same beam over more ground; solar altitude is measured above the horizon instead.

What to look for

Sunlight passing through Earth's atmospheric limb in an ISS photograph. At low solar angles, light crosses a longer atmospheric path and spreads across a larger surface area.

Orange and blue atmospheric layers above Earth's curved horizon, with a crescent Moon in the black sky.
